October Distance Challenge
This month at GTR and MountCo it's all about going the distance ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Join us by setting your own personal goals to see how far you can run and walk throughout the month of October ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
Please make use of our Monday social runs and Thursday's GTR TT to help keep your distance up.
We also encourage everyone to join us on the weekend of the 25-27 October, where the GTR community will be running laps of either a 4.5km loop or a 6.7km loop. Use this chance to run or walk your longest distance in one activity ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿป
*Please note: this is not an event. GTR will provide logistics and a basic water table for your attempt to run your longest distance. You run at your own risk.

Here are a few targets you can aim for during this distance challenge:

1. Half Marathon 21.1km
2. Full Marathon 42.2km
3. 50km
4. 50miles 80km
5. 100km
6. 100miles 161km
Or a monthly total of:

1. 100km
2. 161km or 100miles
3. 322km or 200miles
4. 484km or 300miles
The Distance Weekend (25 - 27 October)
You can choose between a 6.7km or 4.5km lap. It will be run on mixed surfaces.
The laps will start on the hour each hour, with the first lap starting at 09h00 on Saturday 26 October 2024. You may join for as many laps as you like until Sunday 16h00. Some will aim to run their laps consecutively for as long as possible, but we will also allow gaps between laps. You will also have the option to start laps on the hour any time during the weekend. If you start with the 6.7km lap and fail to finish within an hour you may continue with the 4.5km lap if you would like to keep your laps consecutive.ย ย

  • The distance challenge for the month is free to sign up.
  • There is an option for a R50 donation* should you wish to support GTR for this month's challenge, as well as a R500 donation option to help support the GTR community over the Distance weekend of 25 - 27 October.

*All donations of R50 will be used to upgrade the GTR start, and Van Riebeek Gardens and help support the neighbourhood watch in the area ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

    The Distance Weekend Route:
    ย  ย 
    The 6.7km route with 4.5km option is a mixture of single track, gravel, jeep track, grass and tarmac. This route can also be used throughout the month, but any runs will count towards the monthly challenge. The start and finish are in Camphersdrift road dip (GTR start)
